Overwhelmed by her suffocating touring schedule, European Princess Ann (Audrey Hepburn) takes off for a night out alone while in Rome. When a sedative she took from her doctor kicks in, however, she falls asleep on a park bench. She is found by an American reporter, Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck), who takes her back to his apartment for safety. At work the next morning, Joe finds out Ann's regal identity and bets his editor he can get an exclusive interview with her... but romance soon gets in the way!

The movie premiered at the opening of the 14th Venice International Festival in 1953. It was nominated for 10 Academy awards, winning three for Audrey Hepburn as Best Actress for her performance, as well as Best Story and Best Costume Design.
